 | Mrs. Joanne Gunther PE / Health jgunther@bk.org Joanne Gunther loves teaching and has taught all levels including elementary and junior high school. She has taught a wide variety of subjects including home economics, math, English and PE. She is always ready to try something new and is currently learning amazing new computer skills as she teaches online for Idaho Digital Learning Academy.
Mrs. Gunther earned her bachelor’s in elementary education from California Polytechnic State University in Pomona. She later received an additional degree from Boise State University and a secondary credential in English and Physical Education with a coaching emphasis.
Joanne came to Bishop Kelly in 1989 and taught all junior English classes and journalism. The journalism class eventually evolved into the current Video Production class. This adventure also led to the development of the Video Yearbook as well as the BK Spotlight, weekly spotlights on-line featuring “behind the scenes” at BK. Currently, in addition to Video Productions, Mrs. Gunther teaches Girl’s PE and Weights and Conditioning.
In 1994, Joanne accepted the position of head track coach. At that time, she was the only woman head track coach in the state for large schools. After eight state championships and miles and miles of coaching she stepped down in 2008.
Mrs. Gunther has run six marathons, and now enjoys golfing whenever and where ever she can. She is still hoping for the elusive hole-in-one.
