Fortunately for Bishop Kelly, after twenty-six years as a research and development officer and technical manager in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Neznanski retired as a Lt. Colonel and decided to become a teacher. Students have been rewarded with his passion for science ever since.
Larry earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1964. In 1966 he received a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and then returning to Purdue, Larry attained a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1974. It was in 1990 that he began teaching at Bishop Kelly and began sharing his vast knowledge and experience with our students.
“Doc Nez,” as he is known at BK,, loves his students, tells them so and tries to act accordingly. He lets his passion for science and how things work show. His students are encouraged to go far beyond the minimum. Larry’s favorite quote, “If you can’t make mistakes, you can’t make anything,” is indicative of the way he urges students to take a risk to reach beyond what they think is possible.
Dr. Neznanski’s dedication in the classroom is recognized by many. A few of his numerous accolades include the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching, the Micron Outstanding Science Teacher Award and the American Physical Society Distinguished Physics Teacher for Idaho.
Larry’s enthusiasm for Bishop Kelly is evident in the many committees on which he serves, like the Building Committee, Technology Committee and Steering Committee. Further, Doc Nez has been coaching our very successful Science/Engineering academic teams for many years. He also enjoys playing with his grandkids, fishing, gardening, and reading and considers himself a “tinkerer extraordinaire.”
