 | Mr. David R. Skinner Social Studies dskinner@bk.org Mr. Skinner has made Bishop Kelly his life’s passion. He has been involved with the school since 1967 either as a student, teacher, coach, parent, or board member.
A Boise native, David graduated from Boise State and began his teaching career at Bishop Kelly in 1976. He later went on to the University of Oregon, acquiring a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and the University of Idaho where he earned his law degree. He has practiced law since 1986 and returned to teaching at Bishop Kelly in 1996 to start the AP American History program.
Mr. Skinner enjoys golfing, reading, skiing and traveling and considers his family as the greatest joy in his life. His wife Patty is a physical education teacher and his daughter Laura teaches first grade at St. Joe’s. His son Jake is a student at Princeton and his other two offspring, Katie and Ben, are students at Bishop Kelly. His father’s family is from Jordan Valley, Oregon where David operates a coffee shop called the Rockhouse. His mother, a second generation Basque, worked for the Red Cross for thirty years.
Mr. Skinner has been the voice of Bishop Kelly football on the radio for twenty years. In 1997 he founded the History Club which is one of the most active organizations on campus. His goal is to instill a love for history in all of his students and to give them the tools they need to become lifelong learners. His dream is to see Bishop Kelly build a state of the art school that would cement its legacy as Idaho’s finest high school.
