 | Ms. Mary Bieter Foreign Language mbieter@bk.org When graduating from Bishop Kelly in 1976, Mary Bieter never thought that she would be a teacher at BK, let alone a Spanish teacher. But after being abroad for several years, instead of joining the Peace Corps, Mary decided to teach at Bishop Kelly for two years. She had attended college on a four-year scholarship and wanted to give back to others because of that. Though Mrs. Bieter began teaching at BK as sort of a sacrifice she had no idea how much she would come to love teaching here and has been here ever since.
Mary left Boise to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from St Mary’s College, double majoring in History and Spanish. She then attained a Master’s degree in Curriculum-Instruction, specializing in Foreign Language Methods. She is also a member of Phi Delta Kappa and the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Language.
Mrs. Bieter believes that learning a foreign language helps students understand themselves and their world. She wants her students to see how rewarding it is to know another language and culture and how it will benefit them their entire lives. Her goal as a teacher is to ensure that her students have a good experience and want to learn more. Mrs. Bieter was recognized for her excellent teaching in 1997, winning the Idaho Foreign Language Teacher of the year.
In her free time Mary loves to spend time with her children, read and travel. She has been to Europe, South America, Australia, and Mexico. While in South America she even climbed the peak behind Machu Picchu.
