 | Mr. Tom Vitrano Theology tvitrano@bk.org Mr. Vitrano was raised in a suburb of Baltimore, Maryland where he attended Catholic schools. At Calvert Hall High School, he fondly recalls debating and questioning all subjects with his teachers but especially recalls the discussions in religion class. Tom credits his teachers at Calvert Hall with teaching him how to be an authentic educator.
Mr. Vitrano earned his Bachelor’s in Philosophy from Loyola College in Baltimore where he also played Division I soccer. After college he attended law school but after a year and a half he realized that he had taken a wrong turn and that what he really wanted to do was teach high school theology. So he took a Master’s in Theology from St. Mary’s Seminary Ecumenical Institute in Roland Park, Maryland.
Tom and his wife moved to Idaho to pursue educational opportunities in 1994. He has now been teaching Theology at Bishop Kelly for 15 years. According to Mr. Vitrano, he tries to make each day and each class period meaningful. He says “that since each of us is created in the image and likeness of God, a temple of the Holy Spirit, even roll can be a moment to ‘stop and smell the roses’.” Mr. Vitrano uses his guitar and song quite often to focus the class on the topic of the day, or just to get the spirit moving in the room. Tom teaches that there are lots of things that our reason can do for us, but there are plenty of mysteries in this great universe. He says his job is to awaken both the intellect and the faith life of his students and believes that if “they will play along then their education can go beyond the classroom walls.”
Outside of school, Mr. Vitrano enjoys reading, playing the guitar, and watching international soccer matches.
