ELEMENTARY INTERNSHIP -One or Two Semesters
Grade Level: 12 This course offers students the opportunity to explore the field of education through worksite placement. Students will work with an elementary teacher for two class hours during the semester. Students are to provide their own transportation, follow the Bishop Kelly attendance policy (more than 9 absent days equals loss of credit), and dress code. Grade is determined by attendance, written and on-site assignments, and teacher input.
LIBRARY AIDE -One Semester
Grade Levels: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Librarian/Counselor Approval
Students accepted as library aides will be provided opportunities to work under the supervision of a certified school librarian and to acquire learning and experience in the practices and techniques which enable media centers to function in an efficient manner. In addition to working at the circulation desk, students will be trained to assist in locating and shelving books, filing magazines and engaging in special projects as they arise. They will be taught to assist students in the care of books and equipment as well as in using the media center's resources to locate information. Training will also be provided in utilizing the center's technology equipment, hardware, software and online products. The course is graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
OFFICE AIDE -One Semester
Grade Levels: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Counselor Approval
Junior and senior students may earn a maximum of two elective credits toward graduation upon successful completion of this course. Working under the supervision of administrative and/or classified staff, participants will engage in a variety of general office tasks which will include, but not be limited to, the following: taking and dispatching telephone messages, providing information and/or directions to the public and student body, delivering messages and other activities related to their assigned area. The course is graded on a Pass/Fail basis.
SENIOR SEMINAR -One or Two Semesters
Grade Level: 12
Senior Seminar is a student directed course for the disciplined and independent student who does well in a seminar environment. Each year, the instructor chooses a subject or area of focus and presents it with an interdisciplinary humanities approach. A variety of learning mediums are utilized including lecture/discussion, student presentations, film and supplemental readings. The topics for Senior Seminar have included: America in the 60’s, The Renaissance, Contemporary Global Conflicts, The History of Russia in the 20th Century, Baseball as an American Icon, and American Cinema.
TECHNOLOGY AIDE -One or Two Semesters
Grade Level: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Computer Applications II or Advanced Computer Applications
Application required
One student is needed per semester as a technology teacher’s aide. This student must be a prior Computer Applications student with a good mastery of the skills. Interested students must complete an application and be selected for this position. Responsibilities will include word processing, creating spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, handing back assignments, working on classroom bulletin boards, assisting Computer Applications students, etc. The student must be dependable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
VIDEO PRODUCTION -Two Semesters
Grade Levels: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval/Application required
The Video Production class is a two-semester course, which encompasses all aspects of video production. Students will write scripts, film and produce a wide variety of personal and commercial videos. Among these will be the Bishop Kelly Video Yearbook, Spotlight, a forty-minute video depicting school activities for an entire year. Class members will also write the school’s daily announcements and broadcast them to the student body and staff via the public address system.
