ACADEMIC DECATHLON
Academic Decathlon at Bishop Kelly is open to all grades. The goal of this activity is to promote wholesome interschool academic competition in all areas of study. Participation will prepare students to compete in ten different subject areas. Subjects include essay writing, science, math, music, art, economics, speech, interview, language and literature, and Super Quiz.
The overall topic for this year is the US Civil War.
Purpose:
- To encourage students to develop a greater respect for knowledge.
- To promote wholesome interschool academic competition in all areas of study.
- To stimulate intellectual growth and achievement.
- To encourage public interest and awareness of academic achievement in school.
- To foster a desire to learn and understand through a competitive experience.

Coach:
Last year was Bishop Kelly's sixth appearance in the Idaho Academic Decathlon State Tournament, winning the top honors for the medium sized schools. Team members garnered over 30 individual medals, with five of the nine top overall individual top scorers going to BK players.
BK went on to represent Idaho at the virtual online national competition where we scored in the top ten.

- COMPETING IN THE JUNIOR OLYMPICS – Bishop Kelly Freshman, R.J. Bracken, has qualified for the Junior Olympics in New Hampshire! Ranked 37th in the nation,he is attending the week of March 8th with the Sun Valley Ski Team and will be competing in the dual moguls. R.J. has been skiing since he was 4 years old and is an alumni of St. Mary’s School. This is the 3rd time that R.J. has attended the Junior Olympics. Good luck R.J.!

- Congratulations to Chad Blue, who was named as the new Head of Maintenance at BK. He will begin work on April 5, following the retirement of Mr. Chuck Irvine, our beloved maintenance supervisor for over 20 years.
