CLASS INFORMATION FOR MRS. NAGEL’S ENGLISH CLASS

You will be given your Literature book, Write For College reference book, vocabulary workbook and grammar workbook in your classroom. The literature book will be signed out to you by the specific identification number on the book. That same book must be returned at the end of the year to the teacher who checked it out to you.

CLASS SUPPLIES:
3-ring notebook with index dividers – recommended for keeping track of your work
(you may keep class notes in a spiral notebook)
loose leaf notebook paper for assignments to be handed in /no papers may be torn from a spiral
pencils --- pens are not necessary unless required for a specific assignment
an agenda (BK or another type) in which to keep track of your assignments

GENERAL CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
A proper class information heading MUST be on any assignment turned in---

NAME
CLASS PERIOD
DATE
ASSIGNMENT TITLE

BE ON TIME; BE READY TO WORK; HAVE NECESSARY BOOKS, PAPER, PENCILS;
BE SEATED AND QUIET WHEN THE TARDY BELL RINGS. BE RESPECTFUL TO YOUR PEERS AND TO YOUR TEACHER.

CLASSWORK AND HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS:
Daily/weekly class and homework assignments will be posted on the chalk board —you should also have
assignments written in your agenda. At the beginning of a new week, the previous week’s assignment
will be posted on the bulletin board.
Refer to the student handbook concerning the school’s make-up work policy. I want to stress that if you are absent on the day that a specific assignment is due or a test is given, and you knew about the work prior to your absence, the work is still due on the day you return to school. If there is a valid reason for extra time, you must clear it with me. DO NOT ASSUME----ASK!!

CLASSWORK AND HOMEWORK ARE DUE ON THE DUE DATE.
If work is turned in one day late, it will receive reduced credit of one grade lower than it would have received if on time. If you turn in a paper more than one day late, you will receive 50% credit.
KEEP ALL RETURNED PAPERS IN CASE THERE IS A QUESTION ABOUT A PAPER’S HAVING BEEN TURNED IN. The papers are also important for studying for a test and for you to keep track of your grade in the class. Check your grade often on the school website. If you see an error, tell me immediately. Be sure you have your paper with the correct grade marked on it. When a paper has been returned to you, it will also be posted on the website.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT ABOUT WORK ASSIGNED DURING AN ABSENCE AND TO GET IT TURNED IN. YOU CAN CHECK THE BOARD, THE BULLETIN BOARD, WITH FRIENDS AND, FINALLY, WITH ME IF YOU CANNOT DETERMINE THE ASSIGNMENTS.

Listen when instructions are given. I will be happy to answer questions if you have been paying attention and are not sure of the assignment.
