BK Welcomes Mike Caldwell, new Principal

Dear Bishop Kelly Community:

I am very pleased and excited to announce that Mike Caldwell will be the next principal of Bishop Kelly High School, beginning officially July 1, 2014.

Mike brings an exceptional background, skills and qualities to this role and matches well the skills/qualifications and qualities you, our community, told us you desired in our next principal through the faculty, staff, student and parent surveys completed back in November.  Mike is very familiar with the Bishop Kelly community, having served our school for nine years from 2000 through 2008 as a teacher, coach and Assistant Principal of Student Affairs.  He is also a current BK parent of a freshman daughter, Ashton, and a parishioner at St. Mark’s.  For the past six years, he has worked for the Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) as the Director of Program Development and Director of Supervision and Development.  His IDLA experience will be very valuable as we move to the next phase of our Power Up 1:1 technology initiative.

Please join me in welcoming Mike Caldwell back to BK.  As mentioned, he officially takes over as principal on July 1, 2014, but he will start engaging with our team and community in April and May, working with Bob Wehde and our team on the transition and planning for the 2014/2015 school year.

Finally, I would like to take this time to deeply thank Mr. Bob Wehde for his excellent service to our school as principal for the past ten years.   He has played a key leadership role in the many positive changes BK has experienced over those ten years – the total renovation of our school, the academic and athletic successes of our students, hiring and retaining an excellent faculty and staff, our strengthened identity as an exceptional Catholic high school and much more.  Bob will be the new president of Sioux Falls Catholic Schools, effective July 1.  We wish him all the best and thank him once again for his dedication and service to Bishop Kelly.
