The Power of Prayer

Hello Members of the BK Community,

The past few weeks and months have been very difficult for our BK community.  We have had two students diagnosed with cancer, a beloved spouse of a BK staff member die suddenly, several long-time friends of the school pass away, several students battling challenging illnesses, and then, this past Friday evening, a Kuna player, Boone Bartlome, suffer a severe spinal cord injury during a football playoff game here on Nick Ysursa Field.

Many of you have asked what you can do to help those in need, most recently the injured Kuna player and his family.  We have been in contact with his family, friends of the family, and coaches and administrators at Kuna High School, discussing what we should/could do at this time.  They have been incredibly appreciative of all that our BK community has done so far.  Here is what Wendy Johnson, Superintendent of the Kuna School District, wrote to me yesterday:

“Thank you and the entire BK community for your outpouring of support and prayer. I know that Boone and the Bartlome family were quite touched to have the BK football players visit their son on Sunday. From what they said, the visit lifted his spirits.  I am so thankful to the neurosurgeon (Dr. Zimmerman) who was in the BK audience on Friday. This man probably saved Boone’s life, and our whole community is very thankful. I was also touched to see our two teams come together in prayer of support for Boone …”

Boone and his family have a long road ahead of them.  He and they will need our continued prayers and support.  The next two weeks will be critical to Boone and there is hope for eventual improvement and a good outcome.

We will be having a Mass of Healing this Thursday at 7:25 am in the St. Teresa’s Chapel here at BK week for Boone and all others in our community who are suffering and need our prayers for their healing.  We will send a Mass card to Boone and his family.  We are looking at finding ways to support Boone’s family financially.  And we are looking for ways to get our teams and schools together to support Boone and his family.

But the most important thing we can do is to pray for Boone, his family and all those who are suffering in our community.  The power of prayer is best expressed in Matthew 21:22  when Jesus said, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
