Griffin's BK

Griffin's BK

Maybe it was all the Friday nights spent at BK Football and basketball games for as long as he can remember. Maybe it was the 9 years he spent at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Or maybe, it was the fact that Griffin is a third generation Bishop Kelly Knight - both of his parents, his grandmother and grandfather, and countless aunt’s, uncles, and cousins have attended BK. Whatever the reasons, Griffin ALWAYS knew he would be a Knight. More importantly, Griffin knew he wanted to be a Knight.

Coming to BK as a Freshman, Griffin recognized a lot of familiar faces. Throughout grade school and middle school, there were many opportunities to get to know kids from the other Catholic schools through events and athletics. But Griffin was also pleasantly surprised to see that there were many students he didn’t yet know in his classes. With nearly half of the Freshman class coming to BK from outside the Catholic system, Griffin had a lot of opportunities to make new friends.

Playing a fall sport gave Griffin that chance! Between summer strength and conditioning class, and football practices beginning in early August, Griffin felt like he was part of the BK community before school even started. “I really enjoy playing football at BK,” says Griffin. “Everyone knows that BK Football is something special, and Coach Brennan has built a program with a culture unlike any other.” In the spring Griffin enjoys playing Lacrosse for BK. He has also made a lot of friends in the Lacrosse program, and appreciates the experience and advice of his LAX coaches.

Griffin excels in his classes, and his favorites are History, Intro to Sports Medicine, and English. His Sports Med teacher Mr. Redinger is someone that Griffin looks up to because he makes class interesting and fun. He also is happy to be at BK with Mrs. Calovich, our Admissions Director, who he has known since he was very young. “Mrs. Calovic lives up to BK’s goal of making this a safe and caring place for every student because she is so kind and warmhearted.”

Griffin understands what it’s like to be nervous about making the transition to high school, but wants incoming freshmen to know that BK is a great choice! “Your four years of high school should be some of the best years of your life. So take advantage of what BK has to offer. There are definitely going to be some hard times in high school, whether that is a missing assignment, a bad test, or a bad game. However, the good times greatly outweigh the bad. Do your homework, study for tests, and have some fun. You will not regret it.”
