How Does House Work?
How Does the BK House System Work?
The House System is a vertical organizational structure that divides students across all grade levels into smaller, mixed-age communities called “Houses.” Each House consists of multiple “families” led by faculty Family Teachers, creating intimate learning and social environments within the larger school community. Students remain in their assigned House throughout their tenure at the school, developing long-term relationships and House pride.
- At Bishop Kelly High School we have 8 Houses, each has an identifiable name, saint, prayer, crest, and color.
- Students are called to a House when they first arrive and remain in that House, maturing in relationships, leadership, and building bonds with peers and their staff Mentor.
- Each House is led by a staff House Dean and one student Servant Leader from each grade.
- Within each House, students belong to a smaller group, called a Family. Each Family is led by a staff House Mentor and two student Family Captains.
- House meets two times per week, with the activity either being within the Family group, whole House, or whole school.
How are students assigned Houses?
- Freshmen and new students are welcomed into their House at the beginning of the school year and students remain in the same House for 4 years, maturing in relationships and leadership, building authentic bonds with their peers and their mentor teacher.
- Houses are built in a way that ensures there is a diverse cross-section of the student body in each House.
