The Campus Ministry Department at Bishop Kelly High School is very active in the spiritual life and faith development of all students and staff of Bishop Kelly High School. We offer a unique and challenging opportunity through which students and staff can deepen their understanding of themselves and their faith as Christians. We are respectful of the religious and moral growth of all students of all faiths. We try to meet each student where they are on their personal faith journey, and we hope to enable each student to develop a deep and lasting relationship with God.
At Bishop Kelly we create an environment where students can minister to each other. Peer ministry is offered through liturgical roles, retreat leadership, and peer mentoring in conjunction with the Challenger Program. Students are always welcome to make an appointment with the coordinator or walk in and spend time in the Campus Ministry Office.
The Campus Ministry course is an elective, which is designed to allow students a first-hand experience at living out the Gospel message through service to the Bishop Kelly High School community. At its core, the class will emphasize individual and small group spiritual development. Making use of class retreats, student body liturgies and a variety of service projects, the goal of the class will be to put faith into practice. Students selected as Campus Ministers will be called upon to share their faith in a variety of ways, and must be comfortable doing so. Campus Ministers do not have to be Catholic but all Campus Ministers should be practicing their faith on a regular basis.
At the end of spring semester juniors apply to become a student Campus Minister. There is a formal application process conducted by the Campus Ministry Coordinator, which includes a written application and an interview in May. Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA and must not have been subjected to any prior major disciplinary actions.
