Political Science and Law Academy

The Academy for Political Science and Law at Bishop Kelly High School is a program option open to all students interested in learning more about systems of government, political theory, constitutional and statutory law. The APSL is designed to fit within Bishop Kelly’s existing culture and tradition of excellence and is informed by education within the Humanities.

Our Students Will:

• Develop skills and attitudes necessary for success in college and the 21st century, including constant and active learning, effective communication, and the skills of persuasion and diplomacy.
• Cultivate higher-level critical and creative thinking skills by making connections between and among a variety of types of sources.
• Enhance their skills of persuasion with a passion for justice and changing the world.
• Gain a heightened awareness of the American political system, politics, political culture, the Constitution, and the legal system of the United States (including elements from political theory, structure of government, Constitutional law, and statutory law).
• Prepare students for potential degrees and careers in law, political science, criminal justice, or politics.
• Successfully complete a research-based capstone project that reflects students’ knowledge of government, politics, or law.
